Secret to Smooth Wood Finishes ORC WK5
Week 5 is here and I have a few updates for you along with my secret to smooth wood finishes! Read on to see what it is!
I’m spilling a little secret to smooth finishes today. It’s one taught to me by a master carpenter many years ago and I have put it to use many many times. It’s week 5 of the One Room Challenge and it’s a messy one.
Catch up here:
Week 1 // Week 2 // Week 3 // Week 4
Messy because my updates are all over the place. Things that were supposed to happen – have been postponed. The cabinetry was the big one. Fingers crossed they arrive this week so that we can do the countertop final measure. The floating shelves with brass accents are MIA at this point. Even though it feels a little messy, and the order of things is a little mixed up – that’s okay. That’s a little taste of life and it’s healthy for us to continue to learn to be flexible, right?
Anywho, let’s talk about all that’s going right!
Like this snazzy matte black faucet arriving!
In our previous home, we installed the greatest gadget – a touchless faucet and it was a game-changer. I am so happy to be reunited again.
And this fabric is now curtain panels!
Thibaut Mojito Linen
Curtain Rods have been purchased and are installed.
I am taking inspiration from these two gorgeous vent hoods from Hoodsley.com.
Now my little secret to smooth wood finishes:
The chairs I ordered were a great bargain but with some great bargains come a lack of quality. Some of these chairs showed up with a rough finish to the wood. Someone was moving a little too fast cranking these chairs out.
Simple solution? Paper Bag.
A master carpenter clued me in on this little secret many years ago and it has served me well. Just rub the rough finish with a plain paper bag – it’s like having 0 grit. The finish will feel like silk instead of feeling splinters. OUCH!
Better get back to it – time is of the essence! Check back in next week and in the meantime, check out week 5 for the feature designers and the guest participants!
Keep creating “home” my friends,
