Hello! How are you doing? No, really…how are you doing? Today is the day that can feel the most rushed and the most exhausting.

Everyone talks about it.

It’s all over the news.

The busiest day of the year EVERYWHERE. Giftwrap and boxes are sold out. Shelves are picked over. Stocking stuffers are moving into the gum and lifesaver phase.

We could stay here and focus on all the commercialism and potential greed but why?

It’s a beautiful time of the year for a more beautiful reason. When our hearts are in the right place, and our minds in the right space, gift giving is a precious opportunity to show the ones we love just how special they are. When we get the main thing, the main thing – it’s not as stressful. Even if we run out of tape and have to resort to YOU Tube to learn the ways of gift wrap origami or we break out that roll of duct or painters tape.

I have had a deep love for beautifully wrapped presents and have shared that love over the years, I even wrote about the first professionally wrapped present I ever received here and how it changed the way I saw the process.

The last couple of years I have to admit that I have been so very stressed by other commitments that I did not get to wrap presents as beautifully as I like to do (one year, my husband learned to wrap to help me out!). You what? Another lesson learned, I had taken this beautiful experience of wrapping and allowed it to become a burden… can you relate? I had to shift my focus back and that can sometimes be hard to do when your really want it all to be picture perfect and give everyone the “OOH and AHH” moments.

If permission is needed to rest and let your good enough well, be good enough…

then please consider this your permission. As your friend, I say use the tape you have on hand. Tie a shoe lace for a bow or go bow-less- it will be OK.
