$100 Room Challenge – Bedroom Update

|

The $100 Room Challenge has started and we have decided to participate! How will we be able to create a whole update for just a $100? Read on to find out!

Hello! We have decided to start the new year off with a little makeover challenge… all for a $100! My new friend, Erin (Lemons, Lavender, and Laundry) created this fun and necessary challenge for her own home a few years back and it has been a HUGE success! In 2017 Erin opened the event to fellow bloggers to share their space makeovers with a $100 ceiling. So, what room did we decide to take on in January $100 Room Challenge?

We are revamping our college daughter’s room! Spring is all about hope and new beginnings and what better example than college graduation? Last fall I was invited to take on the Jeffrey Court Tile challenge and we chose to remodel the shared bathroom between our girls’ bedrooms. It turned out pretty amazing if I do say so myself.

I don’t know if this happens to you but when we revamp a room around here, it tends to bring out the “not so pretty” in other rooms. HA!

So, now it’s time to do a much-needed update to our oldest daughter’s room. The tropical feel will stay but will “grow up”. In the spirit of this challenge, I will be shopping our home, upcycling, recycling, etc. to truly stay in the $100 realm. This challenge is all about using what you have and getting creative- no sponsors, no selling furniture and increasing the budget. It’s all about transparency and giving inspiration that anyone can take a $100 and refresh a room.  I just LOVE that, don’t you?

The before picture has changed a little bit. The carpet has been replaced so that will help tremendously.

The biggest change and probably the biggest part of my $100 budget will happen with paint.

The walls and ceiling will be lightened up dramatically. I will be doing a whitewash technique on the seagrass and bamboo chair rail. The bookcases and bed will be painted in soft gray.

The seating area will change up a bit. I will be repurposing furniture and lighting we already own to help stay in the $100 cap. I will be sewing new larger pillows to create a clean easy modern vibe.

Lighting will remain but change…confused? No worries, I will show you in the coming weeks what I mean. Fingers crossed I can add accent lighting to the bookcases! I have an idea but… it may not work.

The wall opposite the bed sports a beach photo mural that will stay. I will snap a picture of it for you next week.

Should be fun! Should be challenging! Let’s get started!

Oh! and you have to see the rooms my fellow bloggers are taking on! I’m super excited to follow their ingenious progress, here are the links so you can too.
